November vibes....
Published on: 21 Nov 2011
Cold but rather beautiful in London town. Today is the 21st of November and I want to tell you about some music coming your way from the Ktown cookery......
I had the privilege to be asked to produce one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a while for one of my absolute favorite singers, Mary J Blige. 'Need Someone' is an amazing song by Matt Morris and the way Mary performs it is just breathtaking. It's out today on her new album 'This Life II (Act 1)'. Check it out!
Also out today is the new album 'Come Through For You' from Javier Colon who won 'The Voice of America' on NBC earlier this year. I've wrote a song with Pharrell for the album called 'Stand Up' where Javier sings with Adam Levine, and also produced a beautiful song of Javier's called 'The Truth'.
Finally want to shout out to everyone about Alyssa Bernal who I made a brilliant little album with together with Pharrell. It's out now on Interscope and has some great songs on it including co-writes with KT Tunstall and James Morrison. Unfortunately it's only out in the US for now but keep checking back and I'll update you on this site if I hear anything about releases elsewhere!
For now from Kensal Road.....over and out.

July 4 - soul UK day!
Published on: 04 Jun 2011
Today is independence day....whilst back on the isles it's the release day of an awesome album celebrating the UK soul music scene.
Over the last week the press has been raving about Beverley Knights new album 'Soul UK'. A retrospect of british made soul music that put her on her journey to become the undeniable force of nature on the brit-soul scene that she is.
Most of the album was produced by Martin Terefe including the amazing version of Soul II Soul's 'Fairplay' that became Beverley's first ever #1 song on the UK urban chart.

The track listing of sometimes obscure and overlooked songs and other times world-wide smash hits will take some down memory lane and others might discover some properly wicked soul music made in the UK for the first time......so off you go! Get your good self down to hmv and pick up your copy.......doctors orders!

Apparatjik at the Neue National Gallerie
Published on: 02 Feb 2011
The Apparatjik Light Space Modulator
Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin
Exhibition: March 13-27, 2011
Performances at 9 pm, March 12, March 26, and March 27, 2011
Apparatjik has been invited by the Nationalgalerie Berlin to present the collective's first large-scale project in Germany in March 2011.
Apparatjik is a transdisciplinary working collective founded in 2008 by four world-renowned musicians: Guy Berryman (London), Jonas Bjerre (Copenhagen), Magne Furuholmen (Oslo), and Martin Terefe (London). Apparatjik functions as an experimental platform and collaborates with a pool of artists, media technicians, and designers, as well as scientists such as M.I.T. Astrophysics Professor Max Tegmark and curator Ute Meta Bauer, Head of the M.I.T. Program in Art, Culture and Technology.
The Apparatjik Light Space Modulator is presented as a twofold project: during two weeks the installation can be accessed in the glass hall of the Neue Nationalgalerie and three unique concerts that will be performed at the same location. Those performances are inspired by the visual experiments of László Moholy-Nagy. Moholy-Nagy taught at the German Bauhaus, as did Mies van der Rohe who was the architect of the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin. At the center of both the Apparatjik installation and concerts are moving images that project from a large scale cube into the open glass structure of the building into the city space -- a reference to the kinetic Licht-Raum-Modulator created in 1930 by Bauhaus artist Moholy-Nagy.
Apparatjik's project will conclude on March 27 with a special interactive composition performed in collaboration with the Deutsches Kammerorchester. This concert is dedicated to Mies van der Rohe on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of his birth.
The Apparatjik Light Space Modulator incorporates low-res retro-futuristic visuals, gonzo-pop, randomness and pseudo-science, dadaesque humor, and fashion, in a celebration of convergence culture. Apparatjik's blend of popular culture and playful references to art history places them in a space somewhere between art and popular culture. Last but not least, this project by Apparatjik is to be understood as homage to the legendary Meta-Musik-Festival that took place during the seventies at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin.
The Apparatjik Light Space Modulator will be accompanied by a publication in collaboration with NODE Berlin Oslo to be published in late 2011 including a comprehensive documentation of this project.
Tickets for the three performances are available at apparatjik.com.
Venue:
Neue Nationalgalerie, Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz
Potsdamer Strasse 50, 10785 Berlin

Happy New Year people!
Thought I'd write a short note as a new year starts taking shape. After spending some wonderful time in subzero conditions in the Norwegian mountains I'm back in the studio. Have had an amazing time last week working with Beverley Knight who has been gracing Kensaltown with her soul vibes! Will update you as we get further into the project.
2011 has started with the release of Emma's Imaginations debut album 'Stand Still' being released on Polydor records. For some subtle and beautiful music to comfort you all through the coming winter-months I recommend picking this album up! It entered the UK album chart at number 14 and you'll be hearing more about her for sure!
Last year was busy and between sessions with Mraz in London, Rio, Austin and San Diego I managed to work on a few other projects as well. One of them a great London based songstress called Natalia Jayden. I worked on the album with my longtime compadre Andreas Olsson and the result is really fantastic. It's rare to meet a supertalented pianist, songwriter and singer who on top of that has an effortless habit of writing really big pop hooks. She's just been signed to The Flying Rooster and there'll be more information available on www.nataliajayden.com

Also, there should be more brilliant music with Brett Dennen coming your way too. Had the pleasure of working with Brett on a few songs on his upcoming album and believe me, there's some hot stuff coming you guys's way!
Hopefully it won't take a million years before I write here again.....there's some interesting Apparatjik stuff happening so will let you know more about that very shortly.
Peace and have an extraordinary 2011!
M
