The Involuntary Gardener - Album and Live Show Jan 31, 2020

The Involuntary Gardener is the debut album from London-based, Swedish-born Martin Terefe, acclaimed producer, songwriter and musician, founder of Kensaltown Recording Studios, London, and integral part of art collective Apparatijik. It is released 24 April 2020 and available to pre-order now.

Whilst helping other artists create award-winning music, Terefe has been silently contemplating a solo artistic venture. After years of procrastinating on a preferred format (be it film, visual art, a book), Terefe began working on what came most naturally to him, a collection of personal songs, the lyrics adapted from poems, notes and ideas jotted down over the years. These evolved into The Involuntary Gardener, an album of 11 intimate and atmospheric songs that Terefe describes as “observations, reflection and stories from my life. About love and loss; hope, dreams, fear and frustration.”

Martin Terefe (plus Special Guests) will perform songs from his debut solo album The Involuntary Gardener at London’s Southbank on 10th May 2020. The event will include a screening of Terefe’s new full-length film of the same name.

The Involuntary Gardener film began as a short visual filmed and edited on an iPhone in Toronto, Canada, and ended up as a year-long series of shorts posted one a day on Instagram. Later, Terefe experimented with merging the two formats as one, with the visuals edited together chronologically to create one long chaotic film sequence and letting the songs of the album become both the sound-track to the film and it’s narrative.

The album is available to pre-order now through this website along with tickets to the Southbank show, and additional offerings of limited-edition numbered and signed art prints from renowned photographer Julian Broad.

NOTICE:

"my planned show at the southbank centre has been postponed due to the venue closing for the time being. we are waiting for information from them with information on existing ticket-holders and a possible new date, and will update you as soon as we hear."
